O deep-tech tem influência na techno music e na deep-house de Larry Heard (Mr. Fingers), com a sua primeira música ‘Mystery of Love’ em 1985. Já o minimal techno foi criado pelo artista Richie Hawtin aka Plastikman em 1993 (vide o single 'Spastik').

Nota: diz à lenda que em alguns encartes no primeiro álbum chamado ‘Sheet One’ do Plastikman vinha uma folha de ecstasy no formato de vários fantasminhas. O logo do ghost foi criado pelo Dominic Ayre.
